Early Autumn Migration ID Course

NEW EVENT
  • Multiple sessions available from 28 Aug 2024 to 4 Sep 2024
  • South Beach Car Park, Studland, BH19 3AU, United Kingdom

Join Birds of Poole Harbour this autumn to explore one of the prime locations within the harbour to witness the spectacle of bird migration and see some of the more unusual Poole Harbour visitors.

Owned and managed by the National Trust, the impressive headland of Ballard Down provides scenic cliff top walks within our Poole Harbour recording area. The rich mosaic of chalk downland, mixed copses, scrub and sheer cliff faces provide a superb patchwork of areas to explore and 'bird'. Having supported breeding Skylark, Whitethroat and Yellowhammer over the summer months, the large open areas of grazed pasture then host Wheatear, Common Redstart, Whinchat, Stonechat and Meadow Pipit during early autumn passage.

These courses aim to unpack bird sounds and identification, separating those tricky confusion species, by combining vocalisations with field skills and breaking down of diagnostic plumage characteristics. Our 3.5 hr course will equip you with all the information and skills you'll need to head out this autumn and approach bird ID with a newfound confidence and enthusiasm!
