CuckooShipstal Point

To compliment our hugely popular winter bird boat trips, we have brought back our slightly warmer spring tour offer for you to relax and enjoy. The earlier start time compared to our other cruises coincides with the prime to to bath in birdsong to the wonderfully scenic setting of the Wareham Channel and Frome Valley which lights up at dawn and supports migrants as they stream through and prepare for the breeding season ahead. We’ll be listening out for and identifying spring songsters such as Cetti’s, Reed and Sedge Warblers, as well as scouring the skies, open-water, creeks, channels and floodplains for returning migrants. Target species will include the first returning Osprey, Hobby, Cuckoo and aerial feeders such as Swallows, Martins and Swifts as they refuel after their mammoth migrations. In 2021, Marsh Harrier successful bred in the harbour again after a prolonged absence and mixed breeding success between 2013-2017. We’ll also be cruising past the harbour’s largest gull colony where both Black-headed Gull and nationally-scarce Mediterranean Gull noisily jostle for space on the aptly named ‘Gull Islands’.

Booking essential. Please note, these trips are weather dependent. Although every effort will be made to run, if the ferry company decides that weather conditions prevent the boat running then the event will be cancelled and a full refund made available. We're currently offering a restricted number of tickets based on government guidelines, but should the restrictions ease and capacity for each trip increase, we’ll allocate more tickets if we know it’s safe and responsible to do so.
